Experimenting with sand

Here I used sand to creat a mould to poor plaster into.
Firstly I imprinted my hand into the sand to creat a mould of my hand.
Secondly I created a pattern in the sand and poor the plaster into it to creat the shape. I also added string into this so it could be hanged.

I think the outcome of this is interesting.
The texture of the plaster changed because of the sand , normally it would be smooth but instead it's more gritty.
Though this isn't my favourite technique it does creat interesting results.

ALEXANDRA BELLISSIMO.

Bellissimo's body of work extends beyond traditional photography , her imagery explores the physical and psychological relation between nature and human beings when combine through her use of collage. Her collating process involves precise cutting, layering and adhering photographic prints together into a single cohesive image, Through this unusual unification , her collages evoke a sense of empathy , intimacy and harmony when humans and nature coexist.

Air Pollution.

What is air pollution?
Air is a mixture of gases that fill the atmosphere , it is made of up of mostly nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%) with the remainder a combination of other other gases such as carbon dioxide and argon. Together this lets our planet breathe and there are no ill effects to this known.
Air pollution then can be defined as a gas that is released in a big enough quantity to harm to health of people or animals, kills or stop plants from growing, damage or disrupt the environment or cause other   Kinds of nuisance such as reduced visibility or unpleasant odours.

Similarly to water pollution or land contamination it all comes to down to the quantity of certain gases or chemicals that makes the difference between harmless and pollution , for example Carbon Dioxide is in our air at a concentration of less than 0.05% and we can breathe it in all day without it having an effect on us (we also breathe it out) however air with a high percentage of this gas ( eg between 5-10%) is toxic and can kill you within a matter of mintutes.

Because Earth's atmosphere is very turbulent air pollution tends to disperse quite quickly. In less enlightened times factory operators assumed if they built the smokestacks high enough that the wind would just blow their smoke away diluting it into the air so it wouldn't be a problem however the Earth is a lot smaller that we thought and pollution doesn't just disappear.

Bones.

Here we were given the task of recreating these small bones using various materials.
Firstly we made an armature of the bone using wire , we then used mod rock to fill in the space.
By doing this we are creating a proces which artists use to create a sculpture.
It was also a taste of trying to make our sculpture a copy of the bone , this required measuring, to do this we used a calliper (photographed below).
This makes an accurate representation of the object.
Overall this proved more difficulty than I was expecting , partially because of the small scale of the object and also the fact that I'm not the best at using wire.
However it was a great way to get into the flow of creating a sculpture and showing some techniques that we could use for our final peice.
