Illustration: inanimate object research

One area where animate inanimate objects is popular is on film and TV , In particular kids. Disney and Pixar films and TV shows are a great example where once inanimate object have been bought to life with they're own extravagant personalities.

One film which pops into mind is Disney's Beaut and the beast where the staff of a prince are turned into ordinary household objects.

Lumière// The Candlestick.

He is rebellious yet kind hearted. He often disobeys his master and he is seen frequently trying to court a fellow household object:Babette the feather duster.

Cogsworth// The Clock.

Best friend to Lumière, he is loyal to his master and is very serious.

Mrs Potts// Teapot.

Mrs Potts takes the motherly responsibility to belle and the beast. She is seen as wise and understand though strick at times. She is the mother to Chip.

Chip// Teacup.

Chip, the young son of Mrs Potts is adventurous and lively. He is also very brave as he saves belle and her father.

All these characters are lovable in their own way and are the ones who bring humour to an otherwise dreary film.

Some more examples of films which bring inanimated objects to life are ;

Toy Story

Cars

card board Construction

CARDBOARD
wow such talent
very construct
look at all that cardboard

Cardboard
This is cardboard

It's like paper but not. It can be simply a thick sheet of paper to a complex configurations featuring multiple corrugated  and uncorrugated layers. There are many different types of cardboard so much so the term 'cardboard' is often avoided as it cannot be defined to one type.

THE WONDERS OF CARDBOARD CONSTRUCTION!

if unlike myself u have the ability to DIY then working with cardboard shud be a walk in the park, in simple steps you :
1)plan ahead
2) measure
3) make creases
4) cut the parts U need to
5) put it all together

Group Critique

Charlie Swales

Charlie's initial idea was game design but he has since changed this to joinery/ furniture design.
His idea is to create props/set design for Alice in Wonderland in particular he mention that he was going to make/design a throne for the Queen of hearts.

firstly I feel this is a perfect career choice for charlie as he has shown a great compassion and ability for this in out 3D sessions.

My suggestions for charlie is that if he decides to make a throne for the White queen , if it is life sized instead of using cardboard, he could take an already made chair and manipulate/ build on it to turn it from an ordinary chair into a throne
Using other materials he could transform the chair and this means he should have no problem with the limited time and he has a solid foundation to work from so he doesn't have to worry about it breaking if someone was to sit on it.

If however he chose to do a small scale chair out of cardboard or whatever he could  make a collection of chairs( for the tea party perhaps?) each one fitting in with the personality of each characters(character analysis), he could looked at their oitfits(the colours, textures
and materials) , their role in the book.

Shannon Rose

Shannon's section is fashion. She has chosen to design (and make?) a dress for the queen of hearts.Initally she was going to have the dress showing two different sides of the queen, what everybody thinks she's like and what she's really like, so one half beautiful the other half not so much.

However she has changed her mind and instead has chosen to just design a normal for her.She wants to do a ball gown style bottom , big and puffy .
however she is unsure about the bodice/corset.

An idea she has is based upon the designer Hussein Chalayan whom creates unusal designs that depict geometric structures, urban environment and contempory interiors.

Life Drawings

I Life Drawings

I used pastels and oil pastels  to create these drawings.

I found using oil pastels quite difficult and hard to blend. Therefore I decided too move onto chalk pastles, I really like the soft effect of theses and I feel like my drawings turned out better whilst using chalk rather then oil pastel.

Life Drawings

These are the outcomes from our last life drawing session. I used coloured pastle of white paper( with the exception of one done on black sugar paper).

To start with I did the outline of the body with one colour and then lightly added the shadows with one or more colours. I used these colours in certain directions to create a 3D effect. I then used contrasting colours to create depth to my work. Overa I am very happy with my outcomes, I really enjoyed using pastle because of the soft effect it gave and how easy is it to blend. A few parts I had difficult with were the hands and feet and one this particular day: Her face. I feel that I did quite well on the portions of the body except for possible the first picture as the pose she did was very difficult to draw as it involved figuring out where the arms and legs were in proportion to each other however though it may not be exact I don't think the end result looks bad at all and I am surprisiy pleased with how it turned out.

Character Analysis: Mole

I

Mole is a sensible animal he is mild-mannered and home loving, yet generous and extremely loyal to his friends. He is closest of all to Rat, the animal who teaches him the value of exploration after he leaves his home in the first chapter. Since Mole is an underground animal by nature, his journey into the upper world near the river poses the novel's first main conflict. A 'younger' character than Rat or Badger, Mole serves as our first lens into the story, as he slowly matures from a frightened animal into a self-reliant, brave and clever companion.
