Worksop

Inspiration for one of our designs is to come from places/things in worksop and bassetlaw. I think its a great idea to base pr ideas on worksop so that when our designs are on the glass wall people who visit the bus station will recognised places. I think its also a great way to connect the new bus station to the rest of worksop which has been around for many years.

Firstly we have sherwood forest, which is famously known as the forest where Robin Hood lived.

Here we have the major oak. I think a depiction of this will make a really good design.

Next i have some photos from places in Worksop.

The market

The Savoy cinema , which is a fairly new addition to workshop. I love the iconic shape of this cinema and i think even a stylised design of this will be easily recognised by the people of worksop.

The train station,  which is very import part of worksop as its rails connects worksop to yorkshire and the rest of nottinghamshire.

Lastly this is a sketch of the new bus station.

MC Escher .

For my bus station designs i have decided to look into the artist MC Escher. Known for his mathematical inspired designs. He looks at impossible constructions and explores infinity , architecture and tessellations.

This shows an impossible staircase, i love the way this confuses the brain as it doesn't add up.

This shows an infinity of hands drawing each other.

I love the distorted perspective of Escher looking at himself in a mirrored sphere.

this shows a transformation of a bird into a fish .

Another impossible construction with the bottom and top floor which don't make sense.

Mardi Gras.

For our Wind in the Willows project we are to create costumes to go down the Sewhat catwalk, each person will be given a character ( either Mole, Toad, Badger, Rat or  Weasel) and will be creating a head for this animal. The heads or masks are based upon the carnival celebration known as Mardi Gras ( or Shrove Tuesday in english)

Here are some examples I have found off the internet of some of the heads used in the carnival:

Personally I find the exaggerated facial expressions of the 'human' heads are slightly terrifying.
However i appreciate the unique art form, i think all together the carnival, with its bright colours, is eye catching and I think  when all our Wind in the Willows heads are finished and we're all in costume it'll look spectacular.

Mole head.

For wind of the willows i was given the character of Mole. These are based on Mardi Gras.
To make my head I started with a cardboard box and cut two sides out, the entire of the bottom and the middle section of the front , so it is worn like a helmet . I then added the nose which consist of 2 pieces of cardboard, one long part and one small square to make the snout and the nostrils. Once my base was made I then used rolled up newspaper and duck tape to make the sides and top rounded to look more like a head.
Once it had the shape I wanted I then covered the entire head in newspaper covered in PVA glue.

I added a few layers of this before painting it, I used black hill and dabbed paint on top to give it the fur texture that moles have.  For the finishing touches i used wire to create glasses and whiskers.

Overall I am quite happy with my head, i think to say 3D was never my strong point , it is obvious what animal it is which i think is an achievement in itself.
A few problems i had was that it didn't stay straight on my model therefore i added padding to the shoulders so that it rested better which did improve it.

Clothes wise my model wore skinny black jeans, a white shirt and a tweed waistcoat which i found in a charity shop.

Alice in wonderland , final piece

Here is my magazine printed and put together to make it a physical copy which people can read.
Some problems i uncounted were that ,i had 4 sheets together with each photo and text and i had to stick each page together to make the magazine therefore ideally i would like to have printed the pages with the next page on the back, in good quality paper( with a possible glossy sheen) so i simply had to staple to sheets together, this is how magazines are normally printed, so the finish would have been much more professional looking. Saying that i still think it, when all put together, that it does loo quite good. I backed the front/back cover with card so it is much more durable, another problem that may occurred over time is that the pages are only stuck on with glue so they may begin to curl over or become unstuck. More so , as you can see on the back cover , the page is not entirely smooth. So if i had time i probably would of given it another go ( this is my second attempt). Overall though i am quite happy with the outcome.

Worksop bus station , planning the layout

Now we have all finished our artwork for the wall of the bus station it is now time to decided who's will go up/ how we are going to display it. To decide on this we have all created templates. Firstly i have created a page on Illustrator which has been scaled to represent the wall(10X3 cm) , i then added rulers at the centre and then 3/4 down to make sure everything was in line.
I added the lights to wall (grey boxes) so i could fix the boxes around them.

I then added my designs to tho a photo which one of my class mates took of the wall. By doing this i can see how the proxemic
